DPMC’s e-Drive earns national recognition at Best Corporate Citizen Sustainability Awards

David Pieris Motor Company (Private) Limited (DPMC) has been recognised at the prestigious Best Corporate Citizen Sustainability Awards organised by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, receiving a Merit Certificate for Best Sustainability Project for its pioneering e-Drive Project. This accolade reinforces DPMC’s position as a leader in sustainable and innovative mobility solutions in Sri Lanka.

The Best Corporate Citizen Sustainability Awards annually honour organisations that demonstrate excellence in environmental stewardship, social responsibility and sustainable business leadership. The Best Sustainability Project Award, in particular, recognises initiatives that deliver measurable and long-term positive impact on communities and the environment.

DPMC’s e-Drive Project focuses on converting petrol-powered three-wheelers into fully electric vehicles, offering a practical, scalable solution to reduce carbon emissions while promoting inclusive economic growth. Since its inception, the project has deployed 58 electric e-Drive vehicles across Colombo, Jaffna and Matara, collectively completing over 2.35 million eco-friendly kilometres. This has resulted in the avoidance of approximately 156 tCO₂e in greenhouse gas emissions and a reduction of 102,213 litres of fossil fuel consumption.

Beyond its environmental benefits, the initiative has generated 65 livelihood opportunities, including employment for four women drivers, while 171 drivers have been trained to improve road safety and professional standards.

Developed entirely in-house by the DPMC R&D and DPMC Workshop teams, the e-Drive Project seamlessly integrates technological innovation with environmental responsibility, social inclusion, and economic empowerment. It contributes to ten United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and directly supports DPMC’s long-term commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2040.
