@ Harold Peiris Gallery, Lionel Wendt Art Centre on 22nd, 23rd and 24th August 2025

“Homecoming of The Wild Line” art exhibition marks the return of the internationally acclaimed Sri Lankan artist Rasitha Sanjeewa announces the launch of his latest collection, a profound exploration of emotion, instinct, and unspoken human dialogue.
Blending expressive mixed media and acrylic techniques, Sanjeewa’s new body of work continues his celebrated Dialogue concept, where each painting serves as a visual conversation-layered, raw, and deeply symbolic. “I create from emotion, memory, and instinct,” says Sanjeewa. “Each work is a reflection of something felt but never spoken. My process is not to illustrate, but to uncover what already lives beneath the surface.”
About the Artist

Born in Ambalangoda, Sri Lanka in 1972, Sanjeewa’s career has spanned more than two decades across multiple continents. He first gained international recognition when his work was featured in the 2003 edition of the Encyclopedia Britannica.

In 2001, he was named Young Artist of the Year by the George Keyt Foundation. After relocating to the Cayman Islands in the late 2000s, Sanjeewa won First Prize at the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands’ Ogier Art Award in 2012. One of his notable works, Fish Skeleton, is part of the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands’ permanent collection. His achievements were later chronicled in Art of the Cayman Islands (Scala Fine Art Publishers, 2016), the region’s first formal art history.

ARTIST STATEMENT
My journey into the world of art began as a deeply personal exploration, one that allows me to express my innermost feelings and thoughts while also engaging with the environment around me. For me, creating paintings and sculptures transcends mere aesthetics; it is an essential process of self-discovery and connection to the world. In my work, I draw inspiration from the natural environment, reflecting on its beauty, fragility, and complexity. Each piece is a response to my emotional state at the time of creation, enabling me to channel my experiences, reflections, and concerns into tangible forms.

Whether I am working on a painting or a sculpture, I strive to break free from conventional artistic frames, allowing my intuition and emotions to guide me. This organic approach has led me to discover my own unique style, characterized by an authentic blend of materials, techniques, and concepts. As an artist, I believe that every creation tells a story. For me, it is crucial to weave narratives that speak not only of my personal journey but also of the environmental issues that affect us all. I am driven by a desire to raise awareness about the pressing challenges our planet faces and to inspire others to foster a deeper appreciation for the world around us. Through my art, I hope to create a dialogue that resonates with viewers, prompting them to reflect on their own feelings and connections to the environment. I invite you to join me on this journey of exploration, where each brushstroke and sculpted form embodies the complexity of our human experience and our shared responsibility to nurture the Earth.
