New public platform brings digital-government projects, national targets and verified information into one place
ReadMe has launched the Sri Lanka Digital Progress Tracker, a public research and data project designed to make the country’s digital-government work easier to access, understand and follow.
The platform brings together information on initiatives covering digital payments, digital identity, government document management, digital signatures, cybersecurity, OneRegistry, school digitalisation, transport technology and artificial intelligence.
Each project entry brings together the information readers need, including what the initiative is intended to do, which public institutions are involved, its current stage, published budget information where available, key milestones and the latest verified developments.
The platform will continue to develop as public information becomes available and institutions publish new updates.
“Open government works better when information is easy to find, easy to understand and open to discussion. The tracker is our way of organising publicly available information so citizens, institutions and the wider technology community can follow the country’s digital development and contribute to a more informed conversation,” said Andrew Jebaraj, Co-founder of ReadMe.
The tracker also includes a separate section titled ‘Presidential commitments’.
This section covers national targets stated by the President or in the governing policy programme. They are presented separately from individual project information, allowing readers to see the broader national direction alongside the initiatives being developed to support it.
ReadMe said the project is intended to support open government, transparency and collaboration by creating a shared public reference for citizens, businesses, researchers, policymakers, media and public institutions.
By bringing publicly available information into a clear and readable format, the platform can help institutions communicate their work more effectively while making it easier for others to understand where progress is taking place and where further information is needed.
The Sri Lanka Digital Progress Tracker does not replace official government documents or institutional reporting. It complements them by organising available information and linking each project to its relevant supporting records.
The tracker is part of ReadMe’s wider research, data and analytical work focused on making important developments in Sri Lanka’s technology ecosystem easier to understand.
ReadMe has also developed Digital Policy Watch, a separate public resource that explains Sri Lanka’s digital policies in simple language, including what a policy does, who it affects and where it stands.
