Alumex PLC Powers Innovation as Official Material Sponsor of ‘Unleashed 2026’

Alumex PLC, Sri Lanka’s leading aluminium extrusion manufacturer, was proud to be the Official Material Sponsor for the event, ‘Unleashed 2026’ – the launch of FALCON E1, a next-generation electric racing car designed and built entirely by students of the University of Moratuwa. Held on 4th March 2026 on the university premises, the event marks a milestone in Sri Lanka’s engineering innovation landscape. Developed by the university’s Team Falcon Racing, the FALCON E1 is a completely new electric race car built from the ground up, using advanced engineering design, precision manufacturing techniques and cutting-edge electric vehicle technologies. As the official material sponsor, Alumex provided critical aluminium inputs that formed part of the vehicle’s construction, including aluminium components weighing approximately 650 kilograms. The company also extended specialized anodizing services for machined components, enhancing the power to weight ratio, while maintaining structural integrity required under racing conditions. Alumex has consistently supported Sri Lanka’s student engineering innovation ecosystem and took particular pride in contributing to this project. Notably, this marks the third consecutive occasion on which Alumex has supported the development of Sri Lanka’s electric racing vehicles, reinforcing its commitment to nurturing engineering excellence and sustainable mobility innovation.

The Managing Director of Alumex PLC, Pramuk Dediwela commented, “Supporting the Falcon Racing team and the launch of FALCON E1 reflects Alumex’ commitment to empowering the next generation of Sri Lankan engineers, because we believe innovation is driven by bold ideas and the courage to turn them into reality. These young innovators are demonstrating that Sri Lanka has the talent and capability to compete on global engineering platforms. We are proud that our materials and technical support contribute to a project that represents the future of sustainable mobility and advanced engineering.”

By providing high-quality aluminium materials and technical services, Alumex played a pivotal role in enabling the Falcon Racing team to manufacture precision-engineered components essential for the vehicle’s structural integrity and performance. The vehicle reflects the ingenuity and technical expertise of Sri Lanka’s emerging generation of mechanical engineers and is expected to represent the country at the internationally renowned Formula Student Spain (FSS) competition, scheduled to take place later this year at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya Formula 1 track. It has been engineered to deliver exceptional performance while maintaining the efficiency and lightweight structure essential for competitive electric racing.

The FALCON E1 electric race car incorporates advanced design features and performance specifications, including:

  • Weight: 245 kg
  • Motor: Single chassis-mounted motor
  • Maximum system voltage: 300V DC
  • Maximum power output: 72 kW
  • Accumulator capacity: 7.99 kWh
  • Transmission ratio: 2.8
  • Suspension: Double unequal A-arms with push-rod configuration

Representing Sri Lanka among some of the world’s leading university engineering teams, the Falcon Racing team is preparing to take the FALCON E1 onto the international stage at the Formula Student Spain competition. This initiative underscores the importance of industry partnerships in advancing Sri Lanka’s engineering capabilities and supporting students competing on global technology platforms. Contributing to and supporting this initiative has reinforced Alumex’ role as an industry leader in aluminium manufacturing and as a partner in shaping Sri Lanka’s future technological landscape,
