Lanka India Business Association hosts celebration of Indian Independence Day

The Lanka India Business Association (LIBA) recently hosted a celebration of India’s Independence Day, at Cocobar, Colombo. The event, which was held under the theme ‘Indo-Western Fusion’, brought together an eclectic gathering of distinguished guests. This included diplomats, members of the media, Sri Lankan and Indian business leaders and their families, who enjoy a lively evening filled with camaraderie, dancing, delicious cuisine and meaningful connection.

Mr. Ashique Ali, Governing Council Member of LIBA, spoke of the event, “We wanted to engage socially with our members as well as with the larger Indian community in Sri Lanka and those interested in engaging with India. Not merely to introduce ourselves, but to truly get to know each other better.”

Ms. Nevindaree Premarathne, Governing Council Member of LIBA added, “It is a meaningful occasion that brings people together, and we felt it was the perfect opportunity to connect with our members, friends, and families while celebrating the shared spirit of Indo-Lankan friendship and culture.”

LIBA President, Mr. Santosh Menon, echoed the joy of shared culture: “Indians and Sri Lankans share similar tastes in food, drink, music, and dance. What better way to celebrate our bonds than to dance to Bollywood favourites and enjoy good food and great company together.”

Mr. Menon went on to emphasize LIBA’s role in strengthening Indo-Lanka business ties and supporting Sri Lankan enterprises in navigating the vast Indian marketplace.

The celebration was a true reflection of friendship and harmony between Sri Lankan and Indian guests. It was an evening filled with laughter, camaraderie and merriment, where guests came together to form one united community.
