The highways Minister Johnston Fernando had reviewed the progress of the new highway project, which spans from Ingurukade junction to Colombo Port city. The project is to be completed and commissioned for the public use in 2023.
According to sources, the travel time between Ingurukade junction and Fort (45 minutes) will be reduced to five minutes upon the completion of this project. The 5.3 km highway on pillars will be connected to the New Kelani Bridge via the Ingurukade junction and extended to the Colombo Port City. It is going to be a four-lane highway built at a cost of Rs 28,002 million.
